Parrupu Sadam

This is one of the famous food in our place. It’s simple and tasty too. I use to do this weekly once. Most of my friends here told they don’t know this recipe. Thought of sharing this.
Total Cooking Time: 30- 40 Minutes. Cook time: 10- 15 Min. Wait Time: 15 - 20 Min.
Yields: 2- 3 Serving

Ingredients:

Rice
1 ¼ Cup
Toor Dal
1/2 Cup
Onion Chopped
½ Cup
Tomato Chopped
1/3 Cup
Garlic Pods
7-8
Clove
2
Cinnamon
½ inch
Cumin Seeds
1 tsp
Mustard Seeds
1 tsp
Dry Red Chili
1-2
Turmeric Powder
1 tsp
Chili Powder
1 tsp
Curry Leaves

Cilantro

Salt

Oil

Directions:

  1. Soak rice and dal together for 20 – 30 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pan splutter mustard seeds, clove, cinnamon and cumin seeds, then add onion, red chili, curry leaves, and few cilantro sauté  until onion turns pink, now add tomato and fry for  minutes.
  3. Once it turns mushy add mashed garlic sauté for a minute.
  4. Now drain the water from rice put that in pressure cooker to this add the onion tomato mixture.
  5. Now add turmeric, chili powder, and salt add water (1 cup rice 3 cup water and ½ cup for ½ cup dal).
  6. Pressure cook up to three whistles.
  7. Once the pressure is released serve hot with ghee and any pickle. Even you can eat with curd.

Note:

  • Some people likes this mushy so I use to add water for dal too. But traditionally this rice will not be mushy (no need to add water for dal).
  • You cannot cook this in rice cooker. Dal will not cook properly.
